The instructions below are written from using Outlook 2003. They may be a
little different with a different version on Outlook, but the concept is the
same:

You may want to try using the Advanced Find Feature from your inbox. (Press
the <F3> key)
- Then type in the SEARCH window the subject of the problem message
- Next select the SEARCH IN button and select CHOOSE FOLDERS
- Select the OUTBOX and remove the check from the INBOX
- Click OK
- Try deleting the troublesome message from the Search Window.

Please let me know if this is successful.

You forgot to mention that Outlook needs to be closed completely and
restarted in Offline mode for this to work.

After furious head-scratching, Peter Foldes asked this group:

| Put Outlook OFFLINE and delete.

I took it for granted that someone would know to close OL first to set it to offline. I guess I am wrong doing that. Thanks Milly

Then you'll have to go to war and adapt one of the methods here to your

I wish I knew why they haven't updated this article for current versions.
These are the only solutions that really work.

If people did the obvious, we who provide help would have a lot more time to

That's because outbox.dbx is Outlook Express' Outbox and has nothing to do
with Outlook.

Hi all. Found an easier way by sheer luck:
close down all programs after saving all files. Go to Start=> All Programs
=>Accessories =>System Restore. Click on it and choose a date prior to the
date that you sent the Too-Big-File.
The System Restore Programs restores your system to a date before the
Too-Big-File started blocking Outlook. Open Outlook, go to the Outbox and it
let me delete the offending file without hassles, deleted it out of your
Deleted Items just to make sure.
Went back to System restore as above and got the computer back to todays
date and Bob was my uncle again, the file is gone, Outlook is working again.

I hope it works for all of you like it did for me, changing personal files
and all that is just too complicated for me.

That doesn't work. While it may have appeared to work in your case, it was
coincidental.
