Cannot control Norton

L

Larry Crabtree

Norton 360 has been set to only perform full scans once per month. However,
the scans are being performed everyday. Norton is telling me that the Task
Manager is not working to control Norton. However I cannot setup task
manager to control Norton because it wants a password and this computer does
not have a password. If I put a password in the task manager says I don't
have authorization to establish this task and will not do anything.

Anyone know how to get Norton under control either with task manager or
through Norton? I had tech support from Norton try and they just keep saying
it is a problem with the taks manager.

Uninstall and re-install 360. Something has taken over the Norton
controls.

Windows 'Task Scheduler' can not run unless your
account has a password. This is the same for all
applications that use Task Scheduler.

NO-ONE can control Norton. Use their one good product, Norton Remover
& then use AVG.

That was true for the initial release of XP, but I thought MS modified that
requirement for an early service pack. My Task Scheduler certainly does not
rely on a passworded user.

I have no accounts currently that are not password protected
but read this KB article, last revision date May 7, 2007:
Scheduled Tasks cannot run with a blank password
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310715

SP2 was certainly out before May of 2007 so unless
SP3 changed the rules....

But it's something worth checking when I get a chance
to repair/replace the PC I use for testing.
