Cannot connect to printer on another computer.

I have a network set up with my laptop and my dad's
computer. We both have Windows XP. I cannot figure out how
to connect to his printer so that I can use it also.
Please help. Thanks.

On your dad's machine, go to the printer list in Start Printers and Faxes
and highlight the printer. In Printer tasks in the upper left menu, select
share this printer. Follow on-screen prompts.

Next, on your machine run the Add a printer wizard from start
printers and faxes. Select network printer. Follow on-screen prompts.

Let us know.

Remember also to check that both built in Firewalls are turned off. They're
not designed for use on PCs on a LAN, just on standalone PCs.

thanks. Windows firewall bit was my problem. but how it suddenly becomes active is beyond me. stupid users! aarrgh...
