Hi,
I have WindowsXP home edition on my laptop,I an connect to the
internet using dialup but cannot connect to broadband connection. When
the network cable for Broadband is plugged in, there is an icon on the
taskbar showing the connection but i cannot ping any of the sites. I
tried the same connection on a friends computer and that works fine.

What should i check for ? Please advice.

Regard

In IE do this
click on tools | internet settings
click the connection tab.
in the dial up and vpn settings you will see both ur connections.
make sure that the broadband is set to default
and check this button "Never dial a connection"

I tried that ,but it does not work.I cannot ping the sites at
all.Cannot ping the gateway IP too.
I also tried running the internet connection wizard in IE, but that
also does not help.
What else should i check for?

Regards,
Vikas

Hi,

Then you will have to contact your ISP from whom you purchased the connection and ask them to troubleshoot why there is no connection. it seems to be a fault in the cable and settings at the ISP's site.
