Cannot complete system recovery

I received a set of 8 disks from HP and during files
copying, blue screen appear and the recovery process is
shut down. At first I was getting the typical 000000
errors. Now after reformating the hard drive with Fdisk,
I get a memory error message. I have tried a new hard
drive to no avail, even by religiously following HP's
instructions. Any suggestion

Not sure what the typical 00000 message is. There are several that start
with those numbers and a few that include a bit of text along with the
numbers. These are important details when trying to track down the cause of
an error. But it sounds like you wiped out this problem with FDisk and
moved on to...

Have you succeeded yet in reinstalling XP using HP's Recovery program? What
is the text of the error message about memory and when does it occur?
