Cannot close PST file in Outlook 2000

I am running Outlook 2000 SP3 Internet Mail Only and cannot close some, but
not all, of my PST files. I get the error "The Operation Failed. An object
could not be found." I have verified the files exist and located in the
correct folder (C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook). How can I get this corrected? Thanks

Have you tried a new profile in the Control Panel > Mail applet?

Changing profiles does not touch the data. However, since you're in IMO
mode, the Mail applet cannot be used to create a new profile. Instead you
must use the Registry Editor to remove the existing profile and then Outlook
will crate a new one. Details here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/252304 . Look for the sectrion labeled
"Method 2".

Well, I thought it fixed it but here is what happened. All of the archive
files were off the File List. I opened one of my archives then closed it.
It disappeared from the file list but within a second or two it reappeared
and now it gives me the same message (The operation failed. An object could
not be found.) when I tried to close it.

Exactly what did you click to open then close it?

To open the archive file, I go to File>Open>Personal Folders File
(.PST)... and select
the file. To close it, I right click the file name located in the Folder
List window and select
Close "Archive Folder". The file immediately disappears from the Folder
List, then
sometimes reappears in a few seconds.

Click Tools>Options>Other>Autoarchive. Is there a "Show archive folder in
folder list" check box and, if so, is it checked?

Sorry I didn't read your question correctly. There is no entry for "Show
Autoarchive. What I was looking at was the block for Autoarchive.
