Cannot close or type IE6 SP2 windows

After a period of browsing or inactivity I cannot close an IE window using
any normal method i.e. the FILE-close, clicking the window "X" button,
right-click the taskbar IE close, or the ALT-F4 methods.

I cannot type in the address bars, google search bar, or any other on-page
text boxes either. I can navigate using links, buttons, and drag/dropped
shortcuts into the window.

If I launch a new session, the 1st session remains "broken" but all
functionality is available in the 2nd session ... for a while. There is no
set duration before the ailment occurs. The only way to close the affected
windows is to Halt the IExplorer.exe process in the Task Manager.

I have updated and run SpyBot S&D, Ad-aware 6.0, Trendmicro Internet
Security 7.1, ensured that the XP SP2 Windows Firewall is running and that
there are no exceptions. I have all available MS updates for XP SP2 and IE
6.1 SP2.

I have searched Google, MSDN, Technet, and general MS support and find
nothing.

Go to: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware]

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")

Next, go to the below location:

Sign in, go to the "Spyware and Hijackware Removal" section.
Press "New Topic" and post a description of your symptoms. If they need to
see your log they will ask for it.
