Cannot change fullscreen resolution

Ever since I installed WinXP Pro on my Toshiba laptop, my
fullscreen resolution has diminished. By that I mean
everytime when I boot the computer and the Windows logo
shows up while loading, the screen doesn't take up the
whole screen as it used to when I had Win2000 Pro. I've
also found that when I run "Pinball" in "Windows Games"
in the Start Menu, and change it to play in full screen,
it doesn't stretch the display to fullscreen size, rather
it just keeps the same ratio as if it were windowed and
runs it on a black screen.

I've tried formatting my computer several times and
reinstalling WinXP Pro but the problem still exists.
This never happened when I bought my laptop new with
Win98, and never happened when I installed Win2000 Pro.
I've also tried formatting and installing Win2000 Pro and
then installing WinXP Pro again but my screen never
utilises the full size.

I must mention that using WinXP Pro on an everyday basis
is fine i.e. when I maximize windows it maximizes to the
full screen size. It is only when I specifically tell
things to run in "fullscreen" that it doesn't do it.
However, running a slideshow in Powerpoint does utilize
the fullscreen size.

Can anyone help?

Laptops always have hardware/drivers in them that's specific for laptop and
the os they come with. I assume you had win2k and now you installed xp. You
would have to goto the website of your computer or video card and update the
video card drivers to xp compatable drivers, if available.

At such a stage the screen resolution is a basic one - 800x600 - and
your laptop will probably have a native resolution of 1024x768 or more.
So the picture only occupies the central 800x600 pixels. Laptops
generally have provision in their basic hardware to 'stretch' such lower
resolutions over the available pixels: either this has got turned off,
or the driver that does it has got disabled on upgrading to XP. Consult
the manual on settings, and see if the maker has a replacement item for
XP
