Cannot change file association

I want to associate .wav files with Adobe Audition.
I have changed the association in explorer (Tools/Folder
Options/File types) and all looks fine. However in
explorer, .wavs still have the media player icon and
double-clicking opens the file in media player (V9).

I have also tried a right-click on the file then open
with.../choose program... and ticked the box "Always use
this program to open this kind of file" which I believe
should have the same result.

I briefly had Winamp installed which took over the
default file associations, but I have deleted that and
the association automatically went back to Media Player

Try with...

Open Windows Media Player. Choose "Tools->Alternative". Go to the "Fil
types"-tab. Unmark "Windows Media sound file (wav)" and press OK. Try again
with changing the associations.

(the names is translated from swedish and might be incorrect...)
