Cannot change dynamic HD back to basic

I recently added a 256GB HD which ended up being formatted as a dynamic
drive. I want to convert it back to a basic drive so that I can partition
it. It is /not/ my system drive. I have reformatted it, deleted the volume
under Computer Management, but right clicking on the now "unallocated" drive
does not give the option to change the drive back, rather only to add a new
volume and only a dynamic, simple volume. Is there any way to start all over
with the drive and make it a basic drive? Nothing in Windows seems to do
this, nor does Partition Magic v8.

Thanks.

Oops--just found the answer. You have to right click on the left hand side
of the disk name. Found it in a KB article.

Hi,

I'm not sure why you're not seeing the convert to basic disk.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;309044&sd=tech
suggests how to do it, other than you could run the diskpart.exe program

Go to the command prompt and type diskpart
type: select drive 1 (or whichever drive it's numbered as in disk magement,
it quite important you get this right :))
type: clean
This should wipe everything off the disk and effectively let you start
again.

Hope this helps

Paul,

Thank you again for your prompt help.

I got it to work. I was right-clicking the wrong part of the disk name in
Computer Management.
