Cannot burn DVD+RW's anymore!

I was previously able to burn DVD+RW, DVD-R's but now for some reason the
DVD+RW's won't burn or erase. The discs are new and identical to the ones i
used previously. i have uninstalled everything i can think of that could be
conflicting with the burning software i'm using which is Drag'n Drop CD+DVD
without any luck. is it possible that my burner has become damaged? I have
the Pioneer DVR-K12D. The only thing i have left to try is to format my hard
drive and start again which i really don't want to do. I have also tried
using Nero6 to burn dvd's but i'm not clear on how to use it yet.

here is a stupid question look in your device manager and see if the
computer knows if it is a dvd burner or thinks it is a cd rom only

on the general tab the device typ is stated as "DVD/CD rom drives" but the
device name is stated as "PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K12D". it does attempt to burn
but always comes back with errors. when i slowed down the burn speed it
completed sucessfully but couldn't verify the written data and when i checked
it the disc was blank.

have you tried using the disks that the manufacturer recomends for their
drive? did this start occuring on the use of a new package of blank media
or did it happen in the middle of the package? most problems I have had
with bad disks comes from slowing down the write speed, I just usually go at
its own default speed and that clears up a lot of problems. my sony drive
was very finicky about media it used for writing. some of the cheap stuff I
used in the beginning became useless too me later on due to slight changes
in the manufacturing that my disk didn't like.

yeah the problems started in the middle of a pack, or rather in the middle of
two packs of identical discs that i bought and opened together. i only tried
slowing down the write speed after i had begun experiencing problems. this
pioneer drive seems to be relatively new and there is almost no information
available on it that i can find. i'm going to try a couple of things
reccomended by Easysystems and if they work i'll post it here. any other
ideas would be great, thanks so far!

Have you, by any chance, allowed your computer to autoupdate with SP2? Sometimes when your system is in Autoupdate state, you never know what Uncle Bill's bored programmers are doing!

I suggest visit the Pioneer's website to see if they have a latest driver set compatible with SP2. Then after installing this new drivers, switch off your Pc for about 5 minutes and make yoursef a cup of tea. Then come back, start the Pc and see if everything is working again!. Have you upgraded your Nero 6 software? they have new SP2 files for download. If you are using Roxio EMC then forget it! It is buggy and they haven't got a clue what to do with it! The last update was on 25th April 2004 but it has not fixed everything!! You will be better off using version 6.

Hope this helps.

Hi there,
I got just the same problem, also with a pioneer but its a DVD-RW DVR-K11. I
did the same stuff you did, but did't solve the problem. I found out that
when i use CD-rw's it works, but if I use a CDr (middle of the pack, just
like yours) the burning process seems to go well, but shows a blank (ruined)
cd in the explorer...
I tried a search on the Pioneer website but couldn't find an other driver. I
sent them a mail, but that was today so I'm still waiting for an answer
Also, everything appears to work if you burn small files (eg. 8 Mb) !?? I
just don't get it! Maybe it has something to do with allocated space or
buffersize or something? but then why did it work before???

I am very eager to hear if you found an answer to this...

cheers,
chris
