cannot burn data to dvd+r or cd-r/rw...

okay, ever since I got my pc, I have never been able to
burn a data cd. every time I've tried, my computer
simply restarts on me. it doesn't give me any errors or
warning, it just reboots. my burners (I've used a few
different ones) have all had no trouble with writing
music cd's, but have never been able to burn a data cd.
well, my cdrw recently died on me, and I just purchased a
4x dvd burner. again, it burns music cd's just fine, but
reboots when trying to burn a data cd or dvd. my system
is about 3 years old now, it's an athlon 1.2 ghz
processor, 512 mb of ram, with a geforce fx5200 video
card. I'm probably going to build my own pc within the
next few months, but I'm really hoping I can get my dvd
burner to work now. any help/comments/suggestions are
greatly appreciated

have you tried a firmware update from the manufacturers
website, or try cdfreaks.com

yeah, firmware is the latest, just from last month. I
didn't know about cdfreaks.com though, so I created a
post there. no replies yet though...

What program are you using besides XP's
built in burning. You'll need something else
besides XP's for DVD's if you want to burn
them. And are you sure you've set the jumpers
properly on the burner? And set the burner on AUTO
in the BIOS? So, the system knows its there?

And what else is on the same IDE connection as the buner? Anything?
