Cannot boot from CD

I have an Insprion6000 running XP Home SP2, and at work a Dell Latitude
running XP Pro SP2. I recently used Ghost to create an image of my hard
drive. Boot, F12, change to CD etc. Tonight I tried to backup a friend's
Dell Latitude XP Home SP2 and there is a single message that flashes across
the screen when you try and boot from this same CD and a normal boot starts.
Tried again using F2 and changing to boot from CD first and I get the same
quick message ( too fast to read ) and a normal boot continues. It's missing
something but I can't figure out what it is. This laptop that does not boot
from CD reads this and other CDs just fine. Thoughts?

Try pressing the Pause button to freeze the PC during
the boot sequence. Press Enter to unfreeze it, then
perhaps Pause again.

On the two laptops that work the "Press any key to boot CD" message is
displayed long enough for you to read it. As for trying to pause the system
the message is so fast you miss it. My son offered a suggestion that I may
try that helped him once. Use a digital camera and shoot a video and then
view the frames one at a time.

Hmm, that's a very good point. I had it happen to me once but not quite as
fast I guess because I was able to make it out after a few tries.
