I used to do this regularly, that is, backup my Outlook .pst file. Now,
whenever I try to backup the file (through Outlook) or copy it with
Explorer, I get the following message: "cannot access the file because
another process has locked a portion of the file."

What could be causing this and how do I fix it?

Thanks!

Outlook questions are more likely to get appropriate answers in
microsoft.public.outlook.

Of course, since this is more like a file management question than an
Outlook question, I think this is the most appropriate group!

Your choice. I disagree but won't argue with you.

I tried task manager but couldn't find (or recognize) a running process that
might be causing the problem. I ended up finding a utility on the web called
"Unlocker" which "unlocked" the file and everything is normal now. Must have
been some kind of glitch.?. Thanks, though!
