Cannot activate

I'm doing a clean install on my windows XP pro however my product key no
longer seems to work.
I am certain I am typing it in correctly however all I get is "the product
key is not valid" and won't let me continue installation, how can I fix this?

Until this is fixed my computer is essentially useless.

Use the telephone activation method. The phone number is on the activation screen

Installation? You mean 5*5 alphanumeric code which is prompted in the middle of installing Windows? It has nothing to do with activation.
Did you use slipstreaming while preparing your distrib?
Did you use genuine Windows media?
Did that key worked in first time?
