cannot access start menu

I cannot shut down or restart my computer running XP Home
Ed. When I move my cursor into the task bar, start menu
or the MS Office tool bar on my desktop, I just get the
egg timer icon forever and ever. Since I can't get into
the start menu, I cannot use system restore to get things
working again. Any ideas?

you can still access system restore- go through my computer on desktop, change settings, tools, there it is. BUT it isn't going to fix your problem. Adaware is a quick fix
