Cannot access shares

My set is as follows. I have a desktop running XP pro SP1 connected to ISP
via MS wireless router. I have a laptop running XP pro SP1 connected to the
network via wireless card. Both are in the workgroup MSHOME. The networking
works fine, but I'm having problems setting up file/printer sharing. I went
through the file sharing wizard on both systems and created shares. However,
when I am in "view workgroup compters" - I see both computers on both
machines, but on double-clicking a computer (from the laptop), I get:

"\\Dragon is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource.... No more connections can be made to this remote computer
at this time becuase there are already as many connections as the computer
can accept."

When I try from the desktop, I get:

"\\Alliance is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource.... Logon failure: the user has not been granted the
requested logon type at this computer."

Another puzzle is if I disable "simple file sharing" on the desktop, and try
to access via the laptop, the situation changes. I get a window ("connect to
dragon") with logon boxes, but even when I enter the correct information for
a user in the administrators group on the desktop, I do not get a connection
- the window just pops up again.

I've tried going in and giving explicit permission to all shares on both
system to a user on the desktop (that is in administrators group), but this
has no effect.

Obviously, I've missed something - but what?

If you are sure you have set up your accounts and shares correctly but you
still can't access a machine over your LAN and you get access permission
errors ("Not enough server storage", "Access denied" or "Insufficient
acesss" etc) then his might be worth checking...

Look in the event log on the "server". This might be an ordinary PC in the
case of a home LAN, either way it's the PC hosting the share you are trying
to contact. See if there is an entry telling you the irpstacksize is too
small.

I believe this problems may be due to Norton Antivirus S/W...

Norton have this advisory (long URL may wrap to new line and need repair)

HOWEVER the above only mention the error message being "Not enough server
storage...". I found it can also give other access permission errors. These
are really confusing to someone trying to set up a home LAN.

Here is what I found...

irpstacksize = 11 (dec) causes access permission errors.

irpstacksize = 13/14 the error changed to "Not enough server storage" or
similar.

irpstacksize = 15 and my network shares now work fine.

Thanks, but adjusting irpstacksize does not do the trick. Different values
do give different error messages, though...

Is there some way that I can remove all sharing/settings/registry droppings,
and just start all over? Or is that asking too much from XP?
