Cannot access server remotely after Windows Defender installed

I wanted to run WD on my SBS2003 server. Wouldn't install until SBS service
pack 1 was installed and then I found that remote access to the server was
impossible until I uninstalled WD.
Obviously I would prefer to have WD installed but I cannot do without the
remote access.
Any ideas as to how I can configure WD to get back to normal?

Many thanks

I don't have an SBS 2003 server that I've experience with yet. I have an
SBS-2000 I need to upgrade, but haven't found the time..... I'd strongly
recommend posting in the SBS groups - let me find you a link. They are very
responsive--and I suspect lots of SBS admins run Windows Defender on their
servers.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/newsgroups/server/sbs.mspx

will get you to the web versions--they are accessable via NNTP as well.

Your symptom sounds vaguely familiar, but I can't remember the context--I'll
try to watch the SBS groups to see your post and whether I can spot what it
is reminding me about.

That symptom would knock it off my servers, too--I use remote access many
times a day to multiple clients.

I had installed Defender on an SBS 2003 (Premium) server, and was able to
utilize the Remote Desktop Connection (outbound) without experiencing any
problems. However, I routinely implement an extensive set of hardening
criteria which may or may not have influenced its success. Examples of
hardening are indicated on the CIS Benchmark page in my sig.

Unfortuantely, we experienced unrelated hardware problems, so I backed off
the OS to Win 2K to resolve those issues. (I really did not need the bells
and whistles of SBS 2003 Premium anyway.) This leaves me with no viable
working example or even list of configuration data that may be of assistance.
Sorry!

Perhaps an MVP will chime in with a suitable set of regisrty hacks to get
you back on track.
