Cannot access newsgroups in OE6

Hi

I am moving from a PC running XP Home to a new laptop also running XP Home.
My problem is that although I imported my email messages just fine into OE6,
I just cannot get OE to download anything to do with newsgroups .

I installed the newsgroup settings by simply importing the *.iaf files I
exported from the older PC. That went fine. But when I tried to go online
to download the list of groups to subscribe to I get an error message. The
error is the same no matter which of the 6 servers I imported. So here is
an example ( for news.microsoft.com, but it is the same for any other):

"An unknown response was received in response to a request for information
from the news server 'news.microsoft.com'"
The details are:
Server: news.microsoft.com
Protocol: NNTP
Port 119
Secure(SSL): 0
Error Number: 502
Code: 800ccca0

What is going on. How can I get this going?

You may be connecting repeatedly to a faulty slave server (doubtful).

Are you still using the same ISP?

Make sure the MS News account is configured properly. See
http://www.insideoe.com/resources/communities.htm#setupmsnews.

Try removing the news account entirely and then close OE. Reopen OE and add
the account manually (account information may have been corrupted somehow).

If no joy, create a new Named Identity and try the account(s) in it.

OE General newsgroup:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general

Thanks. I guess they changed the server name. The old name still works on
my older PC.

Changed it. Still does not work and I get the same error with other new
servers. Is there a way to re-install OE 6?

You might care to ask at an OE6 newsgroup. I don't use OE6 myself.
