I just put Windows XP on my computer and since putting it
on I keep receiving a notice when I try to access the
internet that I do not have a modem. The modem is build
into the computer and I was using it up until I put the XP
on the computer. What can I do to get back on the
internet with the XP?

right click on "my computer" choose properties, then
hardware tab, then device manager. look down the list
for "modems" and check that yours appears and that is is
enabled (no error reports)- you may need to right click
the modem and choose properties for more info.If the
modem doesn't appear in device manager, then select
the "action" menu and "scan for hardware changes" see if
this finds it.

Depending upon how old the machine/modem is, it could
also be that it is not compatible with XP. Check the
modem manufacturers website to see if any updated drivers
are available.

If you see any error messages in device manager, post
back with what they are, or do a search on the microsoft
website for them to find out what they mean or what the
cause/remedy is.
