Cannot access internet on guest computer

I've just installed a wireless access point to be able to use ICS with a new laptop (dekstop is the host PC). I have a dial-up (live in a rural area, best we can do right now without spending hundreds in equipment charges). I have correctly set up both PCs and the connection between the two are working properly (confirmed by Netgear tech support). My problem is that on the guest/client I cannot access the internet. Entering a name or IP address of a site is not successful.

Can anyone please help? This is my first time in setting up a network and I need someone to walk me through it step by step.

Netgear's tech support said that all connections on the client PC are correct...the access point is set up and configured correct...but that there is something in the MS configuration on the host that is not quite right...and he could not help with that.

June,

Please provide ipconfig information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
Identify operating system (by name and version) with each ipconfig listing.

What model WAP are you using?

Did the Netgear TS person say what in the MS configuration on the host is "not
quite right"?

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

Thanks for the response, Chuck. I've followed your directions and have pasted the .txt file below. What is in the txt file is not what shows in the black cmd box...I do have data there. If you want me to restate that data, I can do it.

Error: unrecongnized or incomplete command line.

USAGE:

ipconfig [/? | /all | /renew [adapter] | /release [adapter] |

/flushdns | /displaydns | /registerdns |

/showclassid adapter |

/setclassid adapter [classid] ]

where

adapter Connection name

(wildcard characters * and ? allowed, see examples)

Options:

/? Display this help message

/all Display full configuration information.

/release Release the IP address for the specified adapter.

/renew Renew the IP address for the specified adapter.

/flushdns Purges the DNS Resolver cache.

/registerdns Refreshes all DHCP leases and re-registers DNS names

/displaydns Display the contents of the DNS Resolver Cache.

/showclassid Displays all the dhcp class IDs allowed for adapter.

/setclassid Modifies the dhcp class id.

The default is to display only the IP address, subnet mask and

default gateway for each adapter bound to TCP/IP.

For Release and Renew, if no adapter name is specified, then the IP address

leases for all adapters bound to TCP/IP will be released or renewed.

For Setclassid, if no ClassId is specified, then the ClassId is removed.

Examples:
ipconfig ... Show information.
ipconfig /all ... Show detailed information
ipconfig /renew ... renew all adapters
ipconfig /renew EL* ... renew any connection that has its

name starting with EL
ipconfig /release *Con* ... release all matching connections,

eg. "Local Area Connection 1" or

"Local Area Connection 2"

June,

Try again. First just do
"ipconfig /all"
Then do
"ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt"
Should get you something similar to this:
