Cannot access Https URLs

Windows XP Professional. Browser works fine until i try
to access a secure web site starting https when I get
the "This page cannot be displayed" error page. Have
checked all the Internet settings and everying seems ok
(have set them all to default). This only started about 2
weeks ago. Also have a "This Windows Update software Did
not update sucessfully" error message when I visit the
windows Update Web site. Don't know if this is connected.

Anybody any ideas what the problem is, or what I can try
next?

Looks like the Windows update didnt update successfully.
Try doing the Windows update again.
