Cannot access files on D drive after reinstalling XP Pro

Hello,

Recently we formatted and reinstalled XP Pro. The problem is that files
and folders on a second Drive are no longer accessible (probably
because they are orphaned now in terms of an owner, etc)

I get the message :
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not
have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

Another funny thing, even though the old version was also XP Pro (now
i'm doubting this - it coulda been 2003 Server ),
i have no means to set ownership or user access permissions from the
Properties dialog of any of the files.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Take ownership of the files:

Herein lies the rub.
The rub is that there is No "Security" tab in a file's or folder's
"Properties" dialog.
Even though this (the new install) is a WinXP Pro SP2 !

In Windows Explorer go to Tools, Folder Options, View. Uncheck Use simple file sharing.

Doug, Thanks a lot. Great help. Security tab is back on.

Somehow however, the phrase "Use simple file sharing"
(used for the option on the advanced settings tab of
the folder options dialog)
doesn't exactly inspire the user that checking it would make
the Security tab disappear from local files' property dialogs.
