Cannot access encrypted files from XP Pro that were created on Vis

Hello,

I'm having trouble accessing encrypted files created on Vista from an XP Pro
computer. I have exported my certificate and private key, imported it on the
XP side. The thumbprints match between this imported certificate and the
thumbprint when I check EFSINFO on a file. I'm logged into XP as
Administrator and have taken ownership of the file.
But still I get "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file.
You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." And when I
try to uncheck "encrypt contents to secure data" , I get " An error occurred
applying attributes to the file. Access is denied".

Can someone offer advice as to what step I am missing? Thank you in advance
for the help.
