Cannot access C: root directory on Vista computer from xp computer

I am able to share individual folders and devices on my Vista Computer which
I can access from my XP computer, however when I share the entire C: root
directory on the Vista computer and set permissions to access all, my windows
XP computer will not access the C: drive on Vista, it gives me a message that
I do not
have authorization to access the C: share.
I have done everything that I can possible think of, I have worked on this
problem
for two days without any success...
Can any one offer any suggestions?

You will need to be more specific.

How did you attempt to access the C: on Vista from a XP box?

I attempted to connect to the C: drive on my Vista machine by clicking
on it's listing in the MSHOME listing of Explorer.

I can access Public files on the Vista machine but not gain access to
the C: drive and select any folder from there.

you will need to set C: on Vista as a shared folder before anyone can access
it. however, it is generally not advisable to share the root directories.
