Canceling an update on XP?

J

JMF

My system is "stuck in an update ready to install."

It has, ready to install, a "Security Update for Windows Media Player 6.4
(KB925398)"

The problem is that I already have Media Player 11, and in any case it fails
to succeed in the install every time. "Updates were unable to be
successfully installed."

And so the little yellow indicator just stays there, telling me I've got
updates ready to install. I always want to be sure, so now and then I check
and it's that update, still trying to install itself.

So I want to say "Forget that update. You can get rid of it. You can cancel
it. It's not needed."

Is there some way to do it?

Thanks,

John

This doesn't matter. WinXP has the WMP 6.4 built-in by default.
Start > Run: MPLAYER2
and in any case it fails to succeed in the install every time.

Uninstall that update when present under Control Panel > Add/Remove
Programs > Show Updates. Next, download and install from here:
"Security Update for Windows Media Player 6.4 for Windows (KB925398)"
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=e63ccdc3-a2ed-4ef6-b8a1-3f8be4b2726d

Nope (see above).
