can you write coloured text in word

i'm writting a letter to a friend and would like to have it in coloured text,
can i do this in word.
 
Select the text you want to colour.
On the toolbar there is an icon that is a big A with a block of colour
underneath it. Click on the little down arrow to the right of this icon and
select the colour you want.
 
highlight the text, and click the big 'A' on the toolbar with the coloured
line under it...select your colour from the dropdown.
