Can you share Outlook 2003 calendars with GAL distribution lists?

Is it possible to share an Outlook 2003 calendar with a GAL distribution
list? I am running Exchange 2003 in mixed mode on Windows 2000 AD. And, I
just decommissioned my Exchange 5.5 Server. I was accessing the calendar
permissions tab via the calendar properties in the navigation pane on the
local Outlook 2003 client. When I try to apply the changes after I have added
a distribution list I get the following error: The modified permissions can
not be saved.

And, I am not able to access security groups, since only the receipents from
the Exchange 2003 ESM are listed. Is this a limitation due to security
changes in Exchange 2003. As I understand it in Exchange 5.5 you could assign
permissions to a calendar via a distribution list.

Only universal security groups can be used for client permissions. The KB article at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;274046 explains that you need a native-mode domain in order to have USGs
