Can you setup RAID 1 with a regular m/b using XP?

Hi all,
I've got a pc setup as an file server. This pc hosts files for other
systems to access.
The drive has 2 identical 120G ide drives (same channel).
For redundancy purposes, I would like to setup the 2nd drive to mirror the
first.
The problem is, the m/b does not support raid. Without hardware
modifications, can XP create a raid 1 setup? I've read about xp being able
to do raid 0, but raid 1....?
If xp is not capable, are there any recommended applications to accomplish
this?

I think you will find you need a RAID controller which you can buy as a
separate PCI card. You will need to re-install windows after you fit it.

I have never heard of a software RAID setup. If you wish to add RAID to a MB, you can buy a controller card for a PCI slot.

Hi,

XP cannot create mirrored volumes for itself, it only allows for striping
(raid 0). You can use disk manager to set it up on other networked systems
(ironic, I know), but for what you want you will need a hardware solution.

Actually you are wrong...! I installed SEVERAL Adaptec 2400 Raid cards in
my Win-XP system and didn't need to re-install Win-XP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
