Hello all -

I have a Motion Computer LS800 that is currently running Windows XP Tablet
Edition. We want to wipe the harddrive, and install Windows XP Embedded.
Is this possible? Where do I get the media from? I don't see it on the
MSDN library.
It's not part of MSDN, and XPe isn't installed the same way XPPro or
whatever is, you need to use the development tools to build an OS for
your device. Why do you want to use Embedded on this device?

What development toosl do you need? I know WinCE needs Platform Builder.
What do they use for XP Embedded?

Target Designer, Component Designer and Component Database Manager.
These are not available on MSDN.

Windows XP Embedded tools are part of the Windows Embedded Studio: Target
Deisgner, Component Deisgner, Component database Manager.

You can get a full release of the tools from a Microsoft distributor. The
trial version from the Microsoft XPe site:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/embedded/windowsxpembedded/default.aspx.

It is not difficult to get XPe running on a device that already has XPpro or
Tablet PC edition. You will need all the device drivers for the device to
support all the peripherals.

Gal-
An alternative if you already have the XP install discs for that
machine is to use a free tool like nlite (I think thats the name) to
pare down your copy of Windows to sizes comparable with an XPe build.
You can even add EWF and there are tutorials available. (see
<mp3car.com>?). This will avoid XPe licensing issues, assuming it is
only for your personal use.

nlite is good tool too, but XPe is cheaper in price per unit if more than
one unit is being produced. If you are mass producing a system, one still
needs to get the correct license, even if you are plainning to us XP Pro.
