Can you have two versions of Word on computer?

Just bought a new computer which came with latest version of Word (2000?) installed. I hate it. I would like to install Word 97.

Is it better to uninstall the newer version of Word first and then install Word 97, or can I leave the newer version of Word and install Word 97 leaving both on computer? I am worried about the computer locking up and or possible memory issues

Thank

You can have multiple versions of Word or Office.

I have 97, 2002 and 2003 Office versions installed.

Install oldest first then work your way up to newest.

In your case, uninstall the new version then install 97

Hi,
Do you have a CD for Office 2000? If not you won't be able to change your
mind and reinstall 2000. According to
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=828956 you can (probably) run
2 versions on the same machine. The hitch is that 2000 should be
uninstalled, 97 installed then 2000 reinstalled.

Personal opinion... Give Office 2000 a chance. I had to upgrade from 97 to
2000 to work with MS Access 2000 files. Word 2000 isn't *that* different
from 97. Remember, you can configure it to suit your tastes.

Hope this helps,
Don

If it's Word 2000, it's not even close to the newest version.
Word XP followed it, and Word 2003 is the latest version.

I have no experience with two versions of Word on a single
computer, but I would expect that you can do that if you want to.
But why would you want to? Since you don't like that newer
version, why not just uninstall it.

There is no possible memory issue in having two versions
installed. Unless you run both versions at once, only the one you
are running takes memory.
