Can you create RF fields that reference to captions/headings in other documents?

I have two docs - appendices generated by code in and manually typed body
text in another. Both have separate styles. Because of the different
sources and styles I need to keep them separate. When it comes to combining
the two I have found that inserting a link to one doc inside another and
using master/sub docs is impractical. I have received tips from mvps here
on how to build the TOC in the manual doc or a third doc but I'm wondering
if it's possible to have RF fields that point to separate doc and how?

Thanks, simon

Just to clarify, are you referring to cross-references (REF or PAGEREF
fields)?

Hi Simon,

Don't you mean 'RD' fields? If so, the answer is yes - that what RD fields
are for.

If you mean REF fields, the answer is no. You could, however, bookmark the
headings you're interested in and use INCLUDETEXT fields to replicate them.

Cheers

I was hoping to use REF. I will have to think about the bookmark work
around. Thanks for the suggestion though. I just used the Word MVP article
that uses INCLUDETEXT to continue page numbering across docs so it may be
the way to go.
