Can XP mouse driver be beefed up?

After trying five different versions of Logitech Mouseware, I've
gone back to the native Windows XP mouse driver, which is very
stable and reliable. Trouble is, it doesn't offer functions for my
scroll wheel button or thumb button. Is there some download that
will extend its range so that it will give full functionality to a
four-button wheel mouse? I use a Logitech cordless mouse.

Can't find a download that looks like what I want. Thank's anyway.
I'll probably stick to what came with XP, which is solid as a
rock, even if it doesn't assign functions to my extra buttons.

MS Intellipoint drivers should interest you. rel4, if you can find it,
allows "explore my computer", v5 (the latest) does not.

my mouse is a Logitech M-BD53 (old) When setting up intellimouse, I tell
it it's an optical mouse because that's the closest, but you could select
anything. I use intellipoint because it's generally more stable on an
XPSPx platform for me.
