Can Windows XP be reloaded on a HP Pavilion ZT1000 series notebook computer?

My grandson needs to reload Windows XP on his HP Pavilion
ZT1000 notebook because the current WinXP is all messed
up from a virus. The problem is that he lost his
original WinXP disk that came with the computer and he
will have to purchase a new copy of WinXP Home Edition.
The question is can he load the new WinXP on to the
notebook and use the downloaded drivers from the HP web
site to make the notebook operational???

I realize that HP should be contacted, and my daughter
did contact them, but they did not respond, as a result
I said I would try and get an answer through this
Community Newsgroup. If someone can not answer this
question, then maybe they can refer me to a web site that
could provide some assistance on this matter.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Respectfully,

Paul,
One of you needs to be very firm (yet relatively polite) when talking with HP Customer Support.
At the worst, they may charge you a small bit of money to get a new CD copy of their XP Recovery CD's.
If the first people at HP are not providing an acceptable response, ask to speak to their supervisor / manager.
Be persistent.
And beyond the Recovery CDs, ask to get the full OEM XP CD ---- again, at some cost.
Your relative should NOT have to go out and buy a new XP.

A few things to know:
It will cost you considerably less to get a replacement disk from HP.
If the notebook worked with XP before, it will again.
There may be a hidden partition on the HD with a copy of the original
install files (IBM does this often, but I don't know if HP does). Try using
disk management.
