Can the expired version of defender be deleted through Program fil

I have put previous post re the problem of not having Windows defender in the
Add/Remove, it also doesn't show in the Start, All Programs. The only place
that defender shows at the moment is in the Program files...hence the
question if I delete the folder with Windows Defender in it will it delete it
completely from the computer?

It seems that all questions related to the expired version say to delete
through add/remove but since it doesn't show there how does one delete it to
enable the lastest version. It also seems that in all the reading that I
have done in the forums that once people have said that they can find where
to delete it that none of the "gurus" seem to come up with an answer. I have
spent the better part of the last 3 days trying to solve this problem and
wasn't going to post anything as most of the information has been helpful,
but it is just this last glitch that is the problem..Any help would be
appreciated...I wish that I was in the catergory of extremely computer
literate then I would not need to ask the question. But I am a grandmother
trying to keep up with modern technology.

dear granny, just download the new version you want, it will overwrite old
one and appear in all programmes list

Thanks for the response, however, when trying to download the newer version
it did not overwrite, it does not show in all programs, or in add/remove, the
only version that shows is the old one which is in Program files....I still
wonder if the program is deleted from the program files if that would be the
solution and then to start over again and try and get the download from
Microsoft without having the message come up that Network error occurred. In
my other post, any virus spyware etc programs all worked ok until this
windows defender problem. I think that I need to get a shot gun and just
shoot the computer out the window and hopefully to the microsoft company and
let them deal with it. I cannot believe that there was no prior notification
of the termination of the beta and what the needs would be....

Just to let people know, today we went through Firefox and attempted the
download again of Windows Defender and it worked downloading through there
whereas it didn't when using IE7....thank you to those who responded to the
initial problem. I guess perserverance is the answer.
