I wouldn't have used the word 'Update' but 'clean'. but either way,
update might just update your defender database. Is there no help
with this software you downloaded?

You say he bought. Microsoft defender is free.???? You talking about
another product?

Hi Bob,
Windows defender is a free Anti-malware application from Microsoft!.
Did S/He got it from Microsoft link like the one below or got the
Onelivecare program?.
It may be need to update the definitions and the first one just a quick scan
while installing the application, please run the updates and then run a full
scan.

Here some tutorials read it:

Oh, one of "those" questions, uh huh, a friend.
that bought defender spyware.

Then he got ripped off. Windows Defender is a free download.

However, OneCare (the full package) is not free and includes Windows
Defender.

Just because the checkboxes are selected doesn't force your hand to move
the mouse over the button and push to accept the proposed changes.
"Computer is running fine" is unimportant. The host is infected. Just
tell your friend that you're going to leave their host infected. If
your friend doesn't care about the pest infestation, have him uninstall
Windows Defender. Of course, cleaning out pests may render a host in an
unstable, unusable, or otherwise different than expected state. With
that many pests on this friend's computer which obviously shows the
friend is practicing unsafe surfing, they'll just reinfect it, so save a
partition image before the cleanup and afterward (to use it to restore
when the friend reinfects their host).
