Can 't install any printer

I have XP Home on a HP 3200 AMD Ahtlon, so I should be able to just
click and go. I have now tried Lexmark, Canon, Epson to install any of
them. What is the problem?
 
a) Ensure you're logged on as the Administrator or a User with Admin
privileges to install a printer.

b) Ensure the print spooler is started

What happens when you try to install a printer... ie what is the error
message that you read that tells you the install is unsuccessful?
