I have a feeling sp2 was not installed properly on my system. Lots of weird
things are happening since I installed it. I have checked for viruses and
have run spybot's "search and destroy". Nothing sinister as far as I can
see.

Can sp2 be reinstalled with safety?

I'd go back to my restore point and start again, but spybot shows that there
are errors with the restore values that were set - I think it's all part of
the same problem.

Hi,

Yes. Please see the following KB Articles.

KB article 884130, "Programs that may behave differently in Windows XP
Service Pack 2," at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=884130)

How to use the Automatic Recovery feature to recover your computer if the
Windows XP Service Pack 2 Setup program is not completed successfully:

Hope this helps ...... :)
