though it was to do with a heat problem ,but its not,i
have updated my card with the lastest nvida drivers ,but

first off, your card is not a GeForce 4, it is an FX5200. GeForce 4 is a
line of video cards, and GeForce FX is a line of video cards, they are not
the same thing. The GeForce FX is really the GeForce 5, but with a
different name.
Second, go to device manager and see if there are any hardware conflicts
with your display adapter. If there are, try going through the
troubleshooter to resolve any problems. Go to control panel, then to
system, then to the hardware tab, then to Device Manager. Press the + next
to display adapters, and double click on the video card. Then see if there
are any problems, and if so, press Troubleshoot.

does windows actually shut down, so the computer turns off, or does the
monitor just turn off?

the whole computer shuts down...like a loss of power .but
i have a 500 watt power supply and i know there is
nothing wrong with the card ,cos i can run it in Windows
ME...and when i run it in windows XP everything is ok ,
expect when i run a game, even old games like x-
files ,monkey island ,MTG,etc etc,

Hi,

Are you sure that you have installed the correct drivers,
for Win ME or for XP?
What is the version of the drivers?
The latest driver version from nvidia is Detonator 52.16
WHQL.
Have you disabled any antivirus software before you
install the drivers?

.
if your motherboard is msi there is a known problem with
fx-cards use live update to flash bios. Then reboot an go
into bios setup load defaults, then alter your settins
back to suit your hardware this should fix problem
