Can sign in with old passport, not with new

I set up a hotmail account for my wife so she can IM me
at work. I try and log into any Messenger and it gives
me the service status error with her account, but I can
sign in fine with mine. I can log into her hotmail inbox
and www.passport.net. Can anyone please shed some light?
 
Can no one help us?!?!?!?
I need to be able to watch my baby when i travel!
