double checked them on another pc down my fathers house which i had my email
set up on previously, i have no server error etc when i send and recieve it
says completed sucessfully. But i have sent a few test emails from my fathers
account both yesterday and today and i have never got them on my laptop, but
when i tried to recieve down my fathers house on my account they came

matt...see my previous posting on may 8, cannot receive emails etc...and
troubleshoot all the suggested possibilites...then restart your computer &
try again...ie disinstall mcafee etc...good luck, mine still does not
receive, still trying every suggestion!

Is your laptop the only computer checking your mail?
If not, the other computer may be removing your mail from the server
before the laptop has a chance to get it.

yes it is now, i removed the account from the other pc earlier this morning,
ive just set up my second account using the same isp that i also had, and
that one both sends and recieves, the most annoying thing is that the account
that doesnt recieve is my main one :(

Sometimes account information gets corrupted, often by antivirus
software.
Create a new mail account in Windows Mail, with the same
settings as the non-functioning account. Then delete the old
account. Restart WinMail and try it again. Make sure there is
email on the server for that account so it has something to download.

I have a similar problem--why is Windows Mail so problematic when used in a
wireless laptop??

There's nothing particularly tricky about using Windows Mail on
a wireless laptop. I use it that way every day.
To be sure, wireless is a little harder to set up than wired,
but that has noting to do with Vista or WinMail.

still got me stumped !! , i have made sure that only this pc has the account
wich it has now for definite, i have made sure there are emails to download
from the server, still no joy. I have deleted the account set it back up,
still no joy. Like i said i set up another email account wich i have with the
same ISP just with a different email address and that works 100% everytime,
the message i get when i check for email is that it has worked but i get no
mail i know that there is mail on the server as i nipped down my dads set the
account back up and mail came through straight away and i forwarded mail on
for when i got home

It also stumps me! You've tried everything I can think of.
The only thing left to try is a different email program.
If you don't want to bother with installing Thunderbird,
you'll have to wait a couple of weeks when Microsoft will
release the replacement for Windows Mail.

I hope the replacement for Windows Mail isn't a replacement
but rather an alternative. I'm getting pretty fond of this old dog.

Any idea if Windows Mail will be snuffed?

I hope so it sucks!!! still no joy, its baffled me and still is. The thing is
i dont even have an AV installed yet, could windows firewall conflict any
way?? ive tried everything possible.. ive checked again today down my dads
and that account is definitely off his pc.. Ive even set my partner one up
today and hers is perfect, its just one account, but its the most important
one as i run some business from it.

We have no reports that the Windows Firewall ever interfered
with mail. Same for Windows Defender.

Seems like your only solution for now is to try Thunderbird
for the account that is not working. That way you can find out
for sure if the problem is Windows Mail or something else.

got it and set it up.. wierdly it comes back saying that there are no new
messages on the server for that account.. what can be going on? i have sent
emails to it yesterday and again tonight, so why are they not on the server?

Sounds like Thunderbird gave you the same result as Windows Mail,
so it really isn't a Windows Mail problem.
I've run out of ideas as to what might be the problem with that mail account.

Gary. its got to be a server issue or something, i dont know what else to do
myself apart from contacting the isp

Yup. My mistake.

It's a good thing to read all the posts before
before sticking ones mouth in gear.

Cheers,
