Can send but not receive emails

setting up windows mail on new hard drive and can't seem to figure out how to
get it right. I am using a live.com email adress. I have already tried
getting rid of antivirus stuff and fiddling around with security things. When
i click send/receive mail it goes through and tells me i have no new emails
which i know isn't true, i have 10 sitting online. I emailed myself and got a
new email online so i know i can send them. When i click pop3.live.com under
the send/recieve all button it gives me this error:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop3.live.com', Server:
'pop3.live.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error:
10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

HELP!! I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of, and have been over help
topics on hotmail and windows live for the last hour.

I already tried that when i change it it gives almost the same error:

Account: 'pop3.live.com', Server: 'pop3.live.com', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR command not implemented', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server
Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Try this : ( No guarantee )
Tools > Accounts > your live hotmail account > Properties > Servers. Under
In-coming mail service, put a checkmark on " Log on using clear text
authentication " > OK

Well, at least one of your settings differs from the instructions.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that mail account, Properties, Servers.
Make sure that "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" is not enabled.

t-4-2, your advice is correct for Windows Live Mail, but in Windows Mail
the selection items are a little different.

TLM, you stated that you tried to disable the virus "stuff", Did you reboot
after doing so. I found that did not take effect until I rebooted. Hope this
helps, chask

Gary - THANKS !! This finally fixed me !! I had the same issue (see post
on 9/22 @ 2:27 from Stacey), sending but not receiving with live.com address
in Windows mail.

Maybe you can get this info posted somewhere legit where people can find it
more easily . . . . .

I followed the general setup options recommended on the many sites and posts
for pop3 and smtp, used port 587 instead of 25, checked SSL on both in /
out, used the clear text option, and make sure the user name is the full
email address throughout the setup ([email protected]). But the final fix for me
was REMOVING the check for SPA on the incoming mail - leave that empty !!
And finally, I got incoming mail. (I think some of the instructional sites
say you must put that check there, but DON'T !!)

Thanks again !!
