Karen Wisniewski

Hi there I just hope someone can help me please. The message I am getting
below has been appearing since yesterday in my Windows mail and I cannot send
or receive emails.

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop3.live.com', Server:
'pop3.live.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

If it is a hotmail account, your port # should be 995, and Secure(SSL)
should be YES ( checked ).
Tools > Accounts > highlight your account in question > Properties >
Advanced. Change your port # and put a checkmark on " This server requires a
secure connection >( make sure smtp also has the checkmark and port # 587 )

Change the Incoming POP3 port from 110 to 995... and check SSL
Tools - Accounts - youraccount - Properties - Advanced

as per the instructions...
POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example (e-mail address removed)
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25 or 587)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)

I am having the same problem both ways. Incoming - I am getting some but not

The newsgroup to which you posted is dedicated to supporting the
Windows Mail program. If you really meant "Outlook Express" you are
posting in the wrong forum.
If you meant Window Mail, right-click on your error message, copy,
then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

If you're running Outlook Express, you're in the wrong newsgroup.

Of you're running Windows Mail, please begin your own thread about your
problems.

I have the same issue, the error message is below.

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.airstreamcomm.net',
Server: 'mail.airstreamcomm.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

That symptom is usually caused by interference from an antivirus
program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
from overly intrusive antivirus programs:
