Can Search folders only look at Personal Folders?

I am using Outlook 2003 on standalone PC with Windows XP (not Exchange
Server. I want to keep track of all emails to and from a particular client
and have tried Search Folders and Activities tab on Contact info. Both of
these only seem to look in Personal Folder structure so I can see all Sent
emails but not incoming which are in my own folders set up as a separate
account called SMD. Can I get Search Folders and / or Activity list to look
at this? Any help much appreciated.

No, Search Folders are restricted within the storage location (pst-file or
Exchange mailbox). You can of course set Search Folders in any of your
storage locations.

Tx for reply - when you say storage location does that mean I can set up a
Search Folder under my SMD folder? I don't seem to have any options for this.
In Personal the Search Folders folder is there but does not exist under SMD
and I can't create a folder with that name. Sorry if I'm being stupid
here.....

What kind of storage location is your SMD account? Exchange or pst?
What type of account is it? Exchange, POP3, IMAP, HTTP?
