I have installed WinXp into a new desktop of mine but have a few problems
that just evade all my ability to diagnose.
I am connected via dsl to the net. The modem and connection is not an issue
as I could surf using the same with my laptop.
Using the desktop, I could obtain ip address, dns, gateway etc and could
ping anyone under the sun with no or minimal loss. However when I try to surf
using a browser, I am only getting a blank page and the message is always
stuck at "opening www.......". I could even get to a stage where the title of
the page appears on the top blue bar of the screen but that's all. I could be
waiting for an hour and the progress bar at the bottom full but still nothing
appears.
I have tried with various sites that I could oing under cmd with the same
result. I even tried a different browser (Netscape) and the result is similar.
Currently I do not have any anti-virus or firewall on and there should not
be any issue of virus on my pc as it is newly formatted.
Anyone has similar experience or suggestions, please help. Thanks.

I'd look at the MTU, to start.
