Can PING reply be disabled on XP Pro?

Scenario:
client has XP Pro, server is 2000, SP4. Addresses
assigned by DHCP. DNS & WINS working fine.

I have one client who connects to the domain, obtains an
address, appears in DNS and WINS, but does not respond to
PING command. Computer appears in Network Neighborhood,
but when you double click, it errors out. The computer is
definitely on because he is actively working on the LAN.

This client accesses the network shares, exchange server,
network printers, etc. However it does not respond to a
PING command. All other clients, including those across
the subnets, reply.

Any thoughts? Could a setting have been modified on the
client side? Can I do something on the server to correct
this?

I am not physically in the same location as the client,
but I will be next week when I travel there. I hope to
get this fixed when I'm there.

thanks for any info or thoughts.

Check to see if the XP firewall is enabled or if another firewall app is in
use.
