can ping host but cannot browse

I am running a windows xp home computer on a DSL line through a
linksys wireless router. This computer is hard-wired to the router.

From the computer, I can ping the router's ip, I can ping hosts like
www.yahoo.com but I cannot browse to any webpage using IE, Mozilla or
Opera. Rather than just the 'page not found' message, there is
actually a dialog box that pops up first saying that the page was not
found, followed by the actual error page.

When I enter something like www.yahoo.com in the browser, I can see at
the bottom that it gets resolved to its IP address, but after that, it
fails.

Any idea on what could be the problem? Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

Suggestions: Delete these keys (Start/Run/Regedit)

HKEY_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\{}

Reinstall and/or enable your wireless connection via Device Manager and
Network Places.

More info here: Good luck!

Thanks, Kelly. I will try that option.

But just fyi, it is not the wireless part that seems to be failing. It
is just the browsing part. My desktop, which is currently giving me a
problem, is hard-wired to the router.

There is another desktop connected to the same router that lets me
browse without any problems. Also, there is a laptop connected
wirelessly to the router that is fine too.

Just fyi.

Bad news to report - after I deleted those keys and restarted, I lost
TCP/IP. Is that expected?
