can ping but can't be pinged

I have a workstation running XP sp1 and can ping any
device on the network but when I try to ping it the
remote station that I am pinging from times out.

The firewall is turned off and no IP filtering is enabled
etc.

Odd problem! Any ideas will be appreciated

Mike,

What firewall is "turned off"? ICF or third party? Many third party firewalls
can't be easily "turned off".

Please provide ipconfig information for the problem computer, and for one
"remote station".
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
