Can Outlook be accessed on a server for all workstations?

I have a client who is using SBS 2000, and Outlook XP, and Outlook 2003 on
his workstations. He claims that he was able to access all contact
information before we rebuilt his server before!?

Can, or should the ".pst" file be stored on the server and then accessed
from all the workstations, with XP on the workstations, and SBS 2000 as his
server?!

Or... is Exchange required. If not, then what sort of set up would he had
used/done prior the rebuilt of his server. Which basically was installed on a
new mobo and hard drive because of failure.

The OL data file can only be accessed by a single instance of OL
MS does not support the use of a pst over a network, as it can and does lead
to corruption (There is an MS kb article)

Thanks, so one last question... would Exchange be the best solution for my
customer to use as regards to sharing his contact information from one
machine to another?

And if so, since he is using SBS 2000 would Exchange 2007 work with it?!

I have no experience with exchange, but as far as I'm aware exchange is the
way to go if you wish to share info, eg Contacts.
There are various methods of sharing (Non exchange) outlined in
www.slipstick.com

Thanks DL-

I appears that www.slipstick.com doesn't have anything about SBS 2000
working with Exchange... I posted a thread/post on the exchange forum and
hopefully someone there can answer our question regarding the issue of SBS
2000 working with Exchange 2007. Or, I have to locate a previous own, or copy
of Exchange 2000 or 2005 I think? Not sure.

But, thanks DL!

IIRC, SBS 2000 comes with Exchange 2000. Exchange 2007 requires Windows Server 2003.

Thank Milly-

Apparently there is a another solution for me... Office Live Mail - will
look into this to deploy instead of Exchange. Being that my customer only
wants to share "Contact" information.

Thanks!
