Can only get about 11 seconds of narration.

Any idea why I'm limited? I have tons of disk space available. I thought I
could narrate my little heart out.

Maybe you could try creating the
file with Windows Sound Recorder
and see it it works any better.
Start / All Programs / Accessories /
Entertainment / Sound Recorder.
